The disease results in a characteristic skin rash that forms small itchy blisters which eventually scab over. It is most often recognized by a rash of itchy red blisters that appear on the face neck body arms and legs. The rash may first show up on the chest back and face and then spread over the entire body including inside the mouth eyelids or genital area. Also known as varicella chickenpox is caused by the varicella zoster virus vzv.

The classic symptom of chickenpox is a rash that turns into itchy fluid filled blisters that eventually turn into scabs. Raised pink or red bumps papules which break out over several days small fluid filled blisters vesicles which form in about one day and then break and leak crusts and scabs which cover the broken blisters and take several more days to heal. The rash will start as tiny red dots on the face scalp torso and upper arms and legs.
